A first-time player at a live poker table often hesitates when the dealer is already dealing and the betting buttons are on your screen. A hand of live Texas Hold'em follows a fixed order, though. You receive two private cards, and the dealer turns up the community cards in stages, with a betting window between each hand.

Watch one full hand on SG88WIN before you place a bet. Each round follows the same order, and the betting window opens only after the first cards are dealt.

How Do You Start a Live Poker Hand?

A live Texas Hold'em hand starts when the dealer deals you two hole cards face down, and only you can see them. You keep those cards until the hand ends.

Before any cards are dealt, blinds put the first chips into the pot. The dealer button marks who acts last, moving one seat clockwise each hand. Small blind comes from the seat immediately left of the button. Big blind comes from the seat after that, typically twice the small blind's size. A 5-chip small blind, for instance, puts the big blind at 10.

At an ante table, every player pays the same small amount into the pot before cards go out. It's separate from betting. You still call or raise like normal once the action reaches you.

At a Singapore live casino table, the dealer shuffles and deals real cards on camera, and you act by tapping the betting buttons on your screen. Each decision has an action clock, and if it expires, the table usually auto-folds your hand. Look at your hole cards as soon as they appear, then check the size of the pot before the pre-flop action reaches you.

What Do Check, Call, Raise and Fold Mean?

When it's your turn, your screen shows the moves you can make. Which buttons appear depends on whether anyone has bet before you.

If nobody has bet yet, you can check and stay in the hand for free. Bet 50, though, and checking's off the table, you either match it or fold.

Call is matching the bet in front of you. Someone bets 50, you put in 50.

Raise is going above the current bet. The bet's 50 and you raise to 150, everyone still in has to put up 150 or fold.

Fold means you give up your cards and sit out the rest of the hand. The chips you already put in the pot stay there, and you pay nothing more until the next hand.

Some tables don't show all four buttons, because the betting structure of the game decides which ones appear. A table with fixed-amount betting, for example, limits how much you can raise. Check the table rules on SG88WIN before you sit down.

How Do the Community Cards Work?

In Texas Hold'em, community cards go face up in the center, shared by every player still in the hand. Your final hand is the best five cards from the board and your two hole cards. If the board alone makes your best hand, your own cards don't matter. The dealer turns the first three community cards together as the flop, then adds the turn and the river one at a time. Two hearts in hand plus three on the board makes a flush.

What Happens During the Betting Rounds?

A Texas Hold'em hand has four betting rounds — the first comes before the flop, and each new stage of the board brings another.

On a live table, your screen highlights your turn and shows the action clock. Before you press a button, look at the board and work out what your cards can make with it.

If the board shows 5, 6, 7, and 8, for example, anyone holding a 4 or a 9 has a straight.

How Does a Poker Hand End?

If every player but one folds, the remaining player wins the pot without showing their cards. If more than one player remains after the last betting round, the hands go to a showdown and are compared by rank.

Hand strength runs in a fixed order. High card sits at the bottom, a pair ranks above it, and three of a kind ranks below a straight. Three Card Poker reverses that second order, with three of a kind beating a straight, so read the rankings posted at each table before you play.

What Changes in Other Live Poker Games?

What happens if the table isn't Texas Hold'em? Omaha, Three Card Poker, and Casino Hold'em each change how many cards you get, who you play against, or how a hand is won.
